He was best known for developing Tetris in 1984 while working for the Dorodnitsyn Computer Center of the USSR Academy of Sciences, an R&D center established by the Soviet government. He didn't start royalties on his creation until 1996 when he and Henk Rogers founded The Tetris Company.
